Lapsang Souchong or Lapu Mountain small plant is harvested from a type of small tea bush and smoked by withering the leaves over open fires of pine needles or pine wood. Such special orthodox processed Lapsang Souchong is done by skilled tea makers. Hand processing is used for high quality teas only. Its dry leaves are full, strong and slightly twisted in appearance with a rich dark red colour. It has a medium smoky pine aroma with a fragrant trace of natural flowers and Chinese dates. Variation occurs in the strength and inherent profile of Lapsang Souchong tea, a high intensity of smokiness may eclipse the aromatic compounds in the leaf.
