MAKOMAKO

"Bellbird"
Black Tea with Makomako - Organic

A full-bodied black tea sprinkled with native makomako, redolent of native black berry, citrus and exotic fruit notes... The fruit of the makomako, or wineberry, was eaten raw by the Maori and used by the first European settlers to make jam and wine. An infusion obtained by boiling the bark in water was used to treat rheumatic pains, and soaking the bark in cold water yielded a solution to treat sore eyes. The leaves were sometimes smoked over hot coals and applied directly to burns.
